Long Island Vacation

We're back after spending a wonderful 6 days in Long Island. We left last Sunday for Shelter Island where we spent three nights, and then headed for Bridgehampton where my mothers cousin, Cynthia lives. We spent another three days there before coming home yesterday. Luckily coming in on a sunday and out on a saturday meant we avoided all sorts of bad 4th of July traffic! We had a blast exploring Long Island, getting to see some beaches, and doing some nice hiking, and hanging out on the porch. I miss outdoor deck space in Manhattan, it was great to feel closer to nature for awhile.

For those of you that have smart phones, Jeremy and I got into a new app called Vine (owned by Twitter) that lets you share looping 6 second movies. Jeremy's aunt Jolee got us into it by sharing a bunch of videos from their trip to Cabo, and we were so jealous of the fun they were having we decided to make some of our own. The day before the 4th, we headed down to the Hamptons. I've never seen so many absurdly large mansions in my life! The area is beautiful, and I understand why people love it, but as an "outsider" who doesn't own any property, it can be quite limiting. Beach parking is for residents with a pass only, so to get to the beach, Jer and I had to park in town and walk 25 minutes. What a pain. Jer put it nicely, saying the the Hamptons is a constant reminder of what you dont have. So much ridiculous wealth there, a lot of traffic, and competition for everything from parking to a table at a restaurant. While it was gorgeous, I preferred Shelter Island, which had a much more laid back feel.
