Peters Family Blog: Camping, Maui and other summer adventures

Summer is flying by, but we are taking full advantage and have already had several great adventures.

Our chickens got moved out of the garage in late April and are basically full sized now! They grew SO fast. We are still waiting on eggs, that should happen this fall!

In April my friend Sun was having some work done on her apartment, so she moved in with us for 10 days. It was so much fun! My kids loved playing with her Son Zander, and it was great having extra hands to help around the house. They even made dinner half the time. Her sister would come to visit with her son Emmett too, so we often had three little boys in the house, plus their ring leader, Mackenzie. The house felt so empty after they left.

We saw a show by the Bubble Lady and the kids loved it. She did so many creative things with bubbles and all sorts of different types of wands. it was really fun. Mac even got to go on stage briefly and had a bubble put around her head!

Ben also tried soccer for the first time. It was a really hands on class for me, steering him around trying to get him to kick the ball. But I think he enjoyed it.

We went camping over mothers day weekend, the first time in years that I had been. We went with two other couples to Little Basin, west of Los Gatos. Mackenzie quickly found other kids and had a blast running around at dusk and climbing trees. A kids paradise. She also found a few banana slugs which was really fun. We didn't sleep great (especially Ben) but I could see us going once a summer at least, especially when the kids are a little older.

We took a trip to Maui at the end of May and it was awesome. We rented a condo near the beach in Wailea, and went everyday. The kids loved building their own "lagoons" in the sand and playing in the waves. Mackenzie even went snorkeling, and had a gentle introduction to boogie boarding.

I found a babysitting service on Maui and we had a nice daytime hike one day.

I spent the night away with a few mom friends in Napa. There were 7 of us, and we had a great time getting away for one night. Lots of wine tasting and pool time!
